From the Chair

Laura Holland, M.F.A.
Welcome to the largest and most diversified department in the School of Arts and Cultural Studies. I feel that the Communication Arts Department is at the heart of modern-day culture. The need for excellently prepared young people with a heart toward God is critical now more than ever. Every area of our department impacts our culture on a daily basis.

As one of the largest departments in the university, Communication Arts offers majors in: Drama, Drama/Television/Film Performance, Mass Media Communications (including TV, Broadcast Journalism, Print Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising), Organizational/Interpersonal Communication, and Secondary School Certification in Speech/Drama/Debate.

We publish an award winning yearbook and newspaper, operate a closed circuit radio and TV station, produce 3 major theatre productions per year and host an active touring Christian drama ministry team called 'Manna'. Our Multimedia Institute for junior level Multimedia Communication majors features new studios, state of the art electronic equipment, and computer labs. We have added a Media Technology Summer Institute which features an introduction to new technologies, authoring for Disc and creating Web sites. Our Organizational/Interpersonal majors have a great impact on our community with internships in churches, businesses, human resources centers, and the political arena. Our public relations and advertising majors also have internships in the city and community service projects that give our young people an opportunity to share their academic excellence and their faith with businesses and underprivileged areas of Tulsa.

All our professors in the Communication Arts Department are dedicated Christian professionals who are led by the Holy Spirt and strive for excellence in and out of the classroom environment.

Each colorful area of our department creates an ever-changing kaleidoscope of the Great Commission.
